Half Shell Hearing Aid

Half Shell Hearing Aid

Key Characteristics

  • Smaller than full-shell ITE aids but more significant than completely-in-canal (CIC) models
  • These ITEs use a 312 battery, providing longer battery life compared to smaller models

How It Works

Half Shell hearing aids contain five core components:

  • Microphones
  • Amplifier
  • Microchip (signal processor)
  • Loudspeaker (receiver)
  • Battery

The device picks up sound through the microphones, processes and amplifies it based on the user's hearing loss, and then delivers the enhanced sound to the ear through the loudspeaker.

Advantages

  • Discreet Design: More inconspicuous than larger hearing aid styles
  • Comfortable Fit: Custom-made to the individual's ear shape
  • Easy to Use: Often features direct control buttons for quick adjustments
  • Natural Telephone Use: Allows for normal phone positioning
  • Longer Battery Life: Compared to smaller ITE models
  • Versatility: Can accommodate features like push-button controls and air vents

Half Shell hearing aids balance size, functionality, and ease of use, making them popular for many hearing aid users.
